GUM PLASTICS
WHEN CAN GUM PLASTIC BE HELPFUL?
CONTURING FOR CROWNS, VENEERS
When making crowns, we examine whether the gingival pattern meets the aesthetic requirements and fits the other teeth in the environment. Sometimes we find that it's not. Most often, the gum is too long and the tooth looks too short and wide. In this case, we can modify the length of the gum by a minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure or oral surgery, so that the appearance of the teeth will be proportional.
GET RID OF GUMMY SMILE
Similarly to the contouring process, the gum is corrected with or without surgery.
CORRECTION OF GUM RETRACTION
Gingival retraction can now be successfully managed by professional gingival surgery, and the exposed root surface can be covered with gum again.
We use two methods for doing this. If there is sufficient gingival thickness, gum is separated from the teeth and pulled in the direction of the tooth crown with sutures. Otherwise, the connective tissue from the palate is transplanted into the retracted area. The intervention takes place under local anesthesia.
